The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A woman is married for one of three qualities. She is married for her wealth, she is married for her beauty, and she is married for her religion. So choose the one of religion and good character, may your hands be filled with success."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: تنكح المرأة على إحدى خصال ثلاث: تنكح المرأة على مالها، وتنكح المرأة على جمالها، وتنكح المرأة على دينها، فخذ ذات الدين والخلق تربت يمينك.
It was narrated by Ahmad (11765), Abu Yaala (1012), and Bazzar - Kashf Astar (1403), and Ibn Hibban (4037) and Hakim (2/161) graded it sahih, all of them through the route of Muhammad bin Musa Fitri Madani, from Saad bin Ishaq, from his paternal aunt, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who narrated it. The wording is Ahmad's. Bazzar added, "and his character," and said, "We do not know of anyone who narrated anything about character except Abu Saeed through this chain."Al-khulq (with the kha and lam vocalized with damma), or alternatively with the lam silent, means natural disposition. Its chain is hasan because of the paternal aunt of Saad bin Ishaq, who was Zaynab, as Bazzar named her. She was the daughter of Kaab bin Ujra, and was married to Abu Saeed Khudri, and she narrated from her husband Abu Saeed Khudri. Saad bin Ishaq bin Kaab bin Ujra, her nephew, narrated from her, as did Sulayman bin Muhammad bin Kaab bin Ujra, as Mizzi stated in his response to Ali bin Madini, where he said, "No one narrated from her except Saad bin Ishaq." Ibn Hibban mentioned her in Thiqat. Hakim graded it sahih, and Haythami said in Majma (4/254), "Its narrators are trustworthy."
