The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you return home at night, do not enter upon your wife until the woman whose husband has been away has shaved her private parts and the unkempt one has combed her hair."He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "And then it is upon you to seek offspring, to seek offspring."
أن النبي ﷺ قال: إذا دخلت ليلا، فلا تدخل على أهلك حتى تستحد المغيبة، وتمتشط الشعثة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: فعليك بالكيس الكيس.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Marriage (5246) through Shubah, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Suckling (57:715) through Hushaym, both of them from Sayyar, from Shaybi, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he mentioned it. The wording given here is Bukhari's, and he said following it, Ubaydullah followed him, from Wahb, from Jabir, from the Prophet ﷺ, concerning "prudence."As for his statement, "So make sure you seek prudence, prudence," Bukhari explained it in the hadith preceding this one as referring to offspring, meaning seeking children. Ibn Arabi said, prudence means intercourse, and prudence also means intellect, and what is meant is urging him to seek offspring. See Sharh Muslim by Nawawi (10/54).
