The Prophet ﷺ said, "Every sermon that contains no testimony of faith is like a severed hand."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: كل خطبة ليس فيها تشهد فهيي كاليد الجذماء.
Abu Dawud (4841), Tirmidhi (1118), Ahmad (8018), and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (2796) all narrated it through various routes from Asim bin Kulayb, who said, "My father told me, he said, 'I heard Abu Hurairah,'" and he related it. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan gharib." I say, its chain is hasan because of Asim and his father, for the two of them make the hadith hasan.Al-jadhma means the severed one, that is, the hand that cannot be used.As for what was narrated from Abu Hurairah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every matter of importance that does not begin with praise is deficient," this is daif. Abu Dawud (4840), Ibn Majah (1894), and Daraqutni (1/229) all narrated it through the hadith of Uzai, from Qurra, from Zuhri, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Its chain is daif because of Qurra, who is Ibn Abdul-Rahman Maafiri Misri, about whom there is disagreement, though the majority hold him to be daif. Daraqutni said, "Qurra alone narrated it from Zuhri, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah." Others narrated it as a mursal report, from Zuhri, from the Prophet ﷺ, and Qurra is not strong in hadith.Sadaqa narrated it from Muhammad bin Saeed, from Zuhri, from Abdul-Rahman bin Kaab bin Malik, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, but the hadith is not sound. Sadaqa and Muhammad bin Saeed are both daif. The mursal version is the correct one. End.
