Harith bin Hisham asked the Prophet ﷺ, "How does revelation come to you?"He replied, "It comes in different ways. Sometimes the angel comes to me with a sound like the ringing of a bell, and when it ceases, I have grasped what was said. This form is the hardest on me. At other times, the angel appears to me in the form of a man and speaks to me, and I retain what he says."
Bukhari narrated it in the Beginning of Creation (3215), and Muslim narrated it in Virtues (2333), both of them through Hisham bin Urwa, from his father, from Ayesha, and she mentioned the hadith.
