A man freed six of his slaves at the time of his death, and he had no other wealth besides them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for them, divided them into three groups, then drew lots between them. He freed two and kept four in slavery, and he spoke harshly to him.
أن رجلا أعتق ستة مملوكين له عند موته، لم يكن له مال غيرهم، فدعا بهم رسول الله ﷺ، فجزاهم أثلاثا، ثم أقرع بينهم، فأعتق اثنين، وأرق أربعة، وقال له قولا شديدا.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sales (1668) through various routes from Ismail bin Ulaya, from Ayub, from Abu Qilaba, from Abu Muhallab, from Imran bin Husayn, who related it.As for his statement, "and he spoke harshly to him," this is as it came in the Sunan, "Had I witnessed him before he was buried, he would not have been buried in the graveyards of the Muslims."
