Inheritance used to belong to the children, while bequests were made for the parents and close relatives. Then Allah abrogated from this what He willed. He assigned to the male child a share equal to that of two females, He assigned to each of the parents one sixth, He assigned to the wife one eighth or one fourth, and to the husband one half or one fourth.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Bequests (2747), from Muhammad bin Yusuf, from Waraqa, from Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Ata, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.And in another narration (4578), "He allotted to the parents, to each of them, a sixth and a third."
