The Prophet ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, there is no believer on earth to whom I am not the closest of people. Whichever of you leaves behind a debt or dependents in need, I am his guardian. And whichever of you leaves behind wealth, it goes to his paternal relatives, whoever they may be."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Inheritance (1619:15) from Muhammad bin Rafi, who said, Shababa narrated to us, who said, Warqa narrated to me, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.His saying, "There is not on earth a believer" means there is no believer on earth. So (in) here is a negation, and (min) is an extra word added to emphasize the generality. His saying, "So whichever of you leaves behind a debt, or dependents" the word (ma) here is extra, and "diya" as well as "day'ah" mean children or dependents who are left without means, that is, they have nothing.
