The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever grants something as a lifetime gift, it belongs to the one to whom it was given, both in his life and after his death. Do not make ruqba arrangements, for whoever grants something as ruqba, it follows the same ruling."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من أعمر شيئا فهو لمعمره محياه ومماته، ولا ترقبوا، فمن أرقب شيئا فهو سبيله.
Abu Dawud (3559) narrated it from Abdullah bin Muhammad Nufayli, who said, "I read to Maqil, from Amr bin Dinar, from Tawus, from Hajar, from Zayd bin Thabit," who said what has already been mentioned.Nasai (3718), Ibn Majah (2381), and Ahmad (21586) also narrated it by this route, and Ibn Hibban (5133) graded it sahih, but they limited it to his statement, "He made the umra a lifetime gift to the heir." Its chain is hasan.Hajar is Ibn Qays Hamdani Madari. No one confirmed his reliability except Ajli, who said, "A trustworthy successor, and he was among the best of the successors." Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, so his hadith does not fall below the level of hasan.
