Muslim reported it in "Gifts" (1625:30) from the hadith of Shuba, and Bukhari (2226) from the hadith of Hammam, both of them from Qatada, narrating from Ataa, from Jabir, as mentioned. However, Bukhari's wording gives the impression that it is a suspended (mualla) narration. This is because after relating the following hadith of Abu Hurairah, he said, from Hafs bin Umar, Hammam told us, Qatada told us, he said, "Nadr bin Anas told me, from Bashir bin Nuhayk, from Abu Hurairah," and he related the hadith. He said, "And Ataa said, 'Jabir told me, from the Prophet ﷺ,' similarly."So his statement "And Ataa said" the speaker is Qatada, meaning this statement is connected to the preceding chain, "from Hafs bin Umar, Hammam told us, Qatada told us," then it shifts to Ataa, who said, "Jabir told me," and he related it. Whoever considered it suspended was mistaken, as Ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Bari (5/240).His statement, "valid" means sound and continuing for the one to whom it was granted as a life-gift, and for his heirs after him.
