The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When a man retires to his bed, an angel and a devil hasten to him. The angel says, 'Conclude with good,' and the devil says, 'Conclude with evil.' If he remembers Allah and then falls asleep, the angel spends the night guarding him. When he wakes, the angel says, 'Begin with good,' and the devil says, 'Begin with evil.'If he says, 'Praise be to Allah who returned my soul to me and did not cause it to die in its sleep. Praise be to Allah who holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease to exist [Fatir 35:41]. Praise be to Allah who holds back the sky from falling upon the earth except by His permission [Hajj 22:65],' then if he falls from his bed and dies, he enters Paradise."
Abu Yaala narrated it in his Musnad (1785, Athari's edition), from Ibrahim, who said, "Hammad narrated to us, from Hajjaj Sawwaf, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir," and he mentioned it.Ibn Hibban also narrated it from him in his Sahih (5533).Nasai narrated it in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (854) through another route from Ibrahim, with the same chain, similarly. He also narrated it (853) through another route from Mughira bin Muslim, and Hakim narrated it (1/548) via the route of Hisham, the companion of Dastawai, both of them from Abu Zubayr, with similar wording. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."Haythami said in Majma (10/120), "Abu Yaala narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Ibrahim bin Hajjaj, and he is trustworthy."Its isnad is hasan because of Abu Zubayr, who is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus, one of the imams of hadith. Muslim relied on him, and Bukhari narrated from him as corroboration. He is among those known for obscuring his sources, so if his obscuring of a source is established through another isnad, his hadith is rejected, otherwise it is accepted if his hadith has a basis, and this is one such case.
