We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ compiling the Quran from scraps of parchment when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Blessed is Sham."We asked, "Why is that, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "Because the angels of the Most Merciful spread their wings over it."
كنا عند رسول الله ﷺ نؤلف القرآن من الرقاع، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: طوبى للشام. فقلنا: لأي ذلك يا رسول الله؟ قال: لأن ملائكة الرحمن باسطة أجنحتها عليها.
Tirmidhi (3954), Ahmad (12606, 12607), Ibn Hibban (7304), and Yaqub Fasawi in Al-Marifah wal-Tarikh (2/301) all narrated it through various chains from Yazid bin Abu Habib, from Abdul-Rahman bin Sahammasa, from Zayd bin Thabit, who mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "Hasan gharib, we only know it through the hadith of Yahya bin Ayub." In one copy it reads, "Hasan sahih." Its chain of transmission is sahih.As for what has been narrated from Ayesha, Umm Salama, Anas bin Malik, Ali bin Abu Talib, Abu Umama, and Umm Fadl bint Harith regarding the angel's announcement, or Jibreel's announcement, of the killing of Husayn bin Ali at a place called Karbala, all of these narrations are daif. Every chain among them suffers from either a weak narrator, an unidentified narrator, or a break in transmission.
