He narrated from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for guarding crops, livestock, or for hunting, will have a qirat deducted from his reward each day."

Muslim narrated it in "Musaqah" (1574:56) through several routes from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Qatada, from Abul-Hakam, who said, I heard Ibn Umar narrating it, and he mentioned it.It also states that he later added, "except a dog for crops," after he had heard that from Abu Hurairah. This is evidence for the soundness of Abu Hurairah's memorization of the hadiths that follow.
