Malik narrated it in the Book of Sales (76) from Muhammad bin Yahya bin Habban, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales (2146), and Muslim in the Book of Sales (1511), both through the route of Malik, with the same wording. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Prayer (368), and Muslim narrated it through the route of Sufyan, from Abu Zinad, with the wording, "The Prophet ﷺ forbade two types of sale, touching and throwing, and he forbade wrapping oneself completely in one garment, and a man sitting with his knees drawn up wrapped in a single garment." This wording is Bukhari's, and Muslim did not give his own wording but rather referred back to Malik's wording, saying, the same. Muslim also narrated it through the route of Ata bin Mina, from Abu Hurairah, with the wording, "Two types of sale were forbidden, touching and throwing." As for touching, it is when each of the two parties touches the other's garment without properly examining it, and throwing is when each of the two parties throws his garment to the other, without either of them looking at the other's garment.This explanation is an interpolation, and the more likely view is that it is the words of the companion, as Ibn Hajar stated in Fath al-Bari (4/360). A similar explanation of touching and throwing was reported from Malik in Muwatta. These two terms have other explanations that I have mentioned in Minna Kubra (5/163).
