The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted the sale of araya by estimating their measure, but he did not grant permission for anything beyond that.
أن رسول الله ﷺ الرخص في بيع العرايا أن تباع بخرصها، ولم يرخص في غير ذلك.
Imam Ahmad narrated it (21581), as did Darimi (2600) and Ibn Hibban (5009), all of them from the hadith of Uzai, from Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, from Zayd bin Thabit, and he mentioned it. And in the Sahihayn, Bukhari (2184) and Muslim (1539), it states that Salim said, "Abdullah told me, from Zayd bin Thabit, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ later permitted the sale of ariyyah dates for fresh dates or dried dates, but did not permit it for anything else."This is connected to the narration of Aqeel, from Ibn Shihab, who said, "Salim bin Abdullah told me, from Abdullah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not sell fruit until its ripeness becomes evident, and do not sell fresh dates for dried dates.'" This is what Abdullah bin Umar heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while he heard from Zayd bin Thabit about the permissibility of selling ariyyah dates.
