The Prophet ﷺ delivered a sermon on the Day of Arafah in the bottom of the valley. Among what he said was, "The interest of the days of ignorance is abolished, and the first interest I abolish is our own interest, the interest of Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib. It is all abolished."
خطب النبي ﷺ يوم عرفة ببطن الوادي، فمما قال: وربا الجاهلية موضوع، وأول ربا أضع ربانا ربا عباس بن عبد المطلب، فإنه موضوع كله.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Hajj, description of the Prophet's ﷺ Hajj (1218), from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, who said, Hatim bin Ismail Madani narrated to us, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it at length.The meaning of setting aside riba is that one takes the principal amount and forgoes taking the riba, if the transaction was between him and an individual, so he takes nothing beyond the principal. But if it was between him and commercial institutions, he takes it, and does not spend it on himself or his children, but rather spends it on the public good, or on disbelievers and polytheists from whom good is hoped, in order to win over their hearts.
