Abu Qilaba reported,

Muslim bin Yasar said, "I was in Sham in a study circle that included Muslim bin Yasar when Abu Ashath arrived. The people said, 'Abu Ashath, Abu Ashath,' and he sat down."I said to him, "Narrate to our brother the hadith of Ubada bin Samit."He said, "Certainly. We went on a military expedition with Muawiya in command of the people, and we acquired a great deal of spoils. Among what we took were vessels of silver, so Muawiya ordered a man to sell them and distribute the proceeds among the soldiers' allowances. The people rushed eagerly to buy them.News of this reached Ubada bin Samit, so he stood up and said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the sale of gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt, except in equal measure, like for like, hand to hand. Whoever gives more or takes more has engaged in usury.'So the people returned what they had taken. Word of this reached Muawiya, who stood to address the people and said, 'What is the matter with some men who narrate hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that we never heard from him, though we used to be present with him and accompany him?'Then Ubada bin Samit stood up and repeated the account, then said, 'We will most certainly narrate what we heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, even if Muawiya dislikes it,' or he said, 'even if it galls him. I would not mind never serving in his army even for a single dark night.'"

عن أبي قلابة قال

كنت بالشام في حلقة فيها مسلم بن يسار، فجاء أبو الأشعث، قال: قالوا: أبو الأشعث، أبو الأشعث فجلس، فقلت له: حدث أخانا حديث عبادة بن الصامت. قال: نعم، غزونا غزاة وعلى الناس معاوية، فغنمنا غنائم كثيرة، فكان فيما غنمنا آنية من فضة، فأمر معاوية رجلا أن يبيعها فى أعطيات الناس، فتسارع الناس فى ذلك، فبلغ عبادة بن الصامت، فقام، فقال: إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ ينهي عن بيع الذهب بالذهب، والفضة بالفضة، والبر بالبر، والشعير بالشعير، والتمر بالتمر، والملح بالملح إلا سواء بسواء، عينا بعين. فمن زاد أو ازداد فقد أربى. فرد الناس ما أخذوا، فبلغ ذلك معاوية، فقام خطيبا، فقال: ألا ما بال رجال يتحدثون عن رسول الله ﷺ أحاديث قد كنا نشهده ونصحبه، فلم نسمعها منه. فقام عبادة بن الصامت، فأعاد القصة، ثم قال: لنحدثن بما سمعنا من رسول الله ﷺ وإن كره معاوية- أو قال: وإن رغم-، ما أبالي أن لا أصحبه في جنده ليلة سوداء.
