Mutarrif bin Abdullah reported,

A report reached me concerning Abu Dharr, and I wished to meet him. So I met him and said to him, "Abu Dharr, a report has reached me from you, and I wished to meet you and ask you about it."He said, "You have met me, so ask."I said, "It has reached me that you say you heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'There are three whom Allah loves, and three whom Allah hates.'"He said, "Yes, and I do not think I would lie about my dear friend Muhammad ﷺ." He said this three times.I said, "Who are the three whom Allah loves?"He said, "A man who fought in the cause of Allah, met the enemy striving and seeking reward, and fought until he was killed. You find this in the Book of Allah , 'Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in ranks' [Saff 61:4]. And a man who has a neighbor who harms him, yet he endures the harm patiently, seeking reward, until Allah relieves him of him through death or life. And a man who is with a group traveling until exhaustion or drowsiness overwhelms them, so they camp in the last part of the night, but he rises to perform his ablution and prayer."I said, "Who are the three whom Allah hates?"He said, "The boastful, arrogant one, and you find this in the Book of Allah , 'Indeed, Allah does not love any self-deluded boaster' [Luqman 31:18]. And the miserly one who reminds others of his favors. And the merchant, or trader, who swears oaths constantly."I said, "Abu Dharr, what counts as wealth?"He said, "A flock and a few camels," meaning by "flock" a small number of sheep.I said, "I am not asking about this. I am asking you about stored wealth."He said, "Whoever wakes up in the morning does not know if he will see the evening, and whoever reaches evening does not know if he will see the morning."I said, "Abu Dharr, what is between you and your brothers, the Quraysh?"He said, "By Allah, I will not ask them for any worldly thing, nor will I seek their ruling on the religion of Allah, until I meet Allah and His Messenger." He said this three times.

عن مطرف بن عبد الله بن الشخير قال

بلغني عن أبي ذر حديث، فكنت أحب أن ألقاه، فلقيته، فقلت له: يا أبا ذر، بلغني عنك حديث، فكنت أحب أن ألقاك فأسألك عنه، فقال: قد لقيت فاسأل. قال: قلت: بلغني أنك تقول: سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: ثلاثة يحبهم الله، وثلاثة يبغضهم اللهقال: نعم، فما إخالني أكذب على خليلي محمد ﷺ-ثلاثا يقولها- قال: قلت: من الثلاثة الذين يحبهم الله عز وجل؟ قال: رجل غزا في سبيل الله، فلقي العدو مجاهدا محتسبا، فقاتل حتى قتل، وأنتم تجدون في كتاب الله عز وجل إن {الله يحب الذين يقتلون في سبيله صفا} [سورة الصف: ٤]، ورجل له جار يؤذيه، فيصبر على أذاه، ويحتسبه حتى يكفيه الله إياه بموت أو حياة، ورجل يكون مع قوم فيسيرون حتى يشق عليهم الكرى أو النعاس، فينزلون في آخر الليل، فيقوم إلى وضوئه وصلاته. قال: قلت: من الثلاثة الذين يبغضهم الله؟ قال: الفخور المختال، وأنتم تجدون في كتاب الله عز وجل{إن الله لا يحب كل مختال فخور} [سورة لقمان: ١٨]، والبخيل المنان، والتاجر- أو البياع- الحلاف. قال: قلت: يا أبا ذر، ما المال؟ قال: فرق لنا وذود-يعني بالفرق غنما يسيرة-. قال: قلت: لست عن هذا، أسأل إنما أسألك عن صامت المال. قال: ما أصبح لا أمسى، وما أمسى لا أصبح. قال: قلت: يا أبا ذر، ما لك ولإخوتك قريش؟ قال: والله لا أسألهم دنيا، ولا أستفتيهم عن دين الله حتى ألقى الله ورسوله. ثلاثا يقولها.
