Muawiya wrote to Mughira bin Shuba, asking him to write to him something he had heard from the Prophet ﷺ. So he wrote back to him, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'Allah has disliked three things for you, idle gossip, wasting wealth, and asking too many questions.'"
كتب معاوية إلى المغيرة بن شعبة أن اكتب إلي بشيء سمعته من النبي ﷺ، فكتب إليه: سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: إن الله كره لكم ثلاثا: قيل وقال، وإضاعة المال، وكثرة السؤال.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1477), and Muslim in the Book of Judgments (593:13), both of them through the route of Ismail bin Ulaya, from Khalid Haddan, who said, Ibn Ashwa narrated to me, from Shaybi, who said, the scribe of Mughira bin Shuba narrated to me, and he mentioned it.In another narration, "Allah has forbidden three things, and prohibited three things. He forbade disrespect toward parents, burying daughters alive, and 'no, give.' And He prohibited idle talk and hearsay, excessive questioning, and wasting wealth."In another narration, "and withholding, and 'give.'"His saying, "and 'no, give'" means He forbade "no," that is, refusing to give what one is obligated to give of others' rights. He says regarding obligatory rights, "I will not give," while he says regarding what he has no right to, "give."
