He went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "One of us would take a she-camel in exchange for half of whatever spoils he gained, to the point that one of us would have the arrow shaft while another had the arrowhead and the feathers."
أنه غزا مع رسول الله ﷺ قال: وكان أحدنا يأخذ الناقة على النصف مما يغنم حتى أن لأحدنا القدح، وللآخر النصل والريش.
Imam Ahmad (16994) narrated it from Yahya bin Ishaq, from his book, who said, Ibn Lahia informed us, from Ayyash bin Abbas, from Shaym bin Baytan, from Abu Salim, from Shayban bin Umaya, from Ruwayfi bin Thabit, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is hasan. Its sourcing was given earlier in the Book of Purification, in the chapter "One should not clean himself with dung or bone."On this subject there is also a report from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, "Ammar, Saad, and I shared in whatever we obtained on the day of Badr. Saad brought two men, while Ammar and I brought nothing." Abu Dawud (3388), Nasai (3937), Ibn Majah (2288), and Bayhaqi (6/89) all narrated it, all of them through the hadith of Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Ubayda, from his father Abdullah bin Masud, and he mentioned it. But Abu Ubayda did not hear directly from his father.
