The Prophet ﷺ said, "There was a merchant who used to extend loans to people. Whenever he saw someone in financial difficulty, he would say to his servants, 'Overlook his debt, perhaps Allah will overlook our sins.' So Allah overlooked his sins."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: كان تاجر يداين الناس، فإذا رأى معسرا قال لفتيانه: تجاوزوا عنه، لعل الله أن يتجاوز عنا، فتجاوز الله عنه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Sales (2078), and Muslim in the Book of Musaqah (1562), both from the hadith of Ibn Shihab Zuhri, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utba, from Abu Hurairah, who mentioned it.
