The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You were shown to me in a dream on three nights. The angel brought you to me wrapped in a piece of silk and said, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered your face, and there you were. I said, 'If this is from Allah, He will bring it to pass.'"
Bukhari reported it in the Book of Marriage (5125), and Muslim in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2438), both from the hadith of Hammad bin Zayd, from Hisham, from his father, from Ayesha, and she mentioned the hadith. The wording given is Muslim's, and Bukhari's wording is similar, except that he did not mention in it "three nights." Instead, in other narrations found in his book, it came as "twice."
