The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever departs from this world, soul parting from body, free of three things will enter Paradise: hoarded wealth, misappropriated spoils, and debt."
قال رسول الله ﷺ من فارق الروح والجسد وهو بريء من ثلاث: الكنز والغلول والدين دخل الجنة.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (1572), Ibn Majah (2412), Ahmad (22427), Ibn Hibban (198), Hakim (2/26), Bayhaqi (3555), and Darimi (2634), all of them from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, from Qatada, from Salim bin Abu Jaad, from Madan bin Abu Talha, from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is sahih. Saeed bin Abu Aruba experienced confusion in his memory late in life, but the chain includes someone who transmitted from him before that confusion set in.As for his wording, "the treasure," in other narrations it appears as "arrogance." However, Tirmidhi said, "This is how Saeed said it, 'the treasure.' Abu Awana, in his hadith, said 'arrogance,' and did not mention 'from Madan' in it. Saeed's narration is more sahih." End of quote. He is referring to what he himself narrated (1572) from Qutayba, who said, we were told by Abu Awana, from Qatada, from Salim bin Abu Jaad, from Thawban, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever dies free of three things, arrogance, misappropriation of spoils, and debt, enters paradise."This is how Tirmidhi related it, but Hakim narrated it through the route of Abu Dawud Tayalisi and Affan bin Muslim, who both said, we were told by Abu Awana with his chain of transmission, and he mentioned in it Madan bin Abu Talha between Salim bin Abu Jaad and Thawban. He said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs."Perhaps Tirmidhi did not come across the narration of Abu Dawud Tayalisi, just as I myself could not find it in his Musnad, so look into where he recorded it.
