The Prophet ﷺ visited Umm Mubashir al-Ansariyyah in a date-palm grove of hers and asked her, "Who planted these palms? A Muslim or a disbeliever?"She replied, "A Muslim."He said, "No Muslim plants a tree or sows a crop from which a person, an animal, or anything else eats, except that it counts as charity for him."
أن النبي ﷺ دخل على أم مبشر الأنصارية في نخل لها، فقال لها النبي ﷺ: من غرس هذا النخل؟ أمسلم أم كافر؟ فقالت: بل مسلم فقال: لا يغرس مسلم غرسا، ولا يزرع زرعا، فيأكل منه إنسان ولا دابة ولا شيء إلا كانت له صدقة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sharecropping (1552:8) through several routes from Layth, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, as mentioned. In another version reported by him, Ibn Jurayj said, Abu Zubayr told me that he heard Jabir say, and he related the hadith. Ibn Jurayj did not mention in his version the Prophet's ﷺ entering upon Umm Mubashir. Some narrated it from Jabir, from Umm Mubashir, as found with Abd bin Humayd in his Musnad (1572). The correct view is that it belongs to the Musnad of Jabir, which is what Daraqutni favored in his Ilal (15/418). Umm Mubashir was the wife of Zayd bin Haritha, as Imam Ahmad noted in his Musnad, and she was the daughter of Bara bin Marur Ansari.
