Abdullah bin Shaddad and Abu Burda sent me to Abdullah bin Abu Awfa and said, "Ask him whether the companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to pay in advance for wheat during the time of the Prophet ﷺ."Abdullah replied, "We used to pay the Nubayt of the people of Sham in advance for wheat, barley, and oil, in a known measure to a known date."I asked, "Did you pay it to someone who already had the goods on hand?"He said, "We did not ask them about that."Then they sent me to Abdul-Rahman bin Abza, and I asked him. He said, "The companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to pay in advance during the time of the Prophet ﷺ, and we did not ask them whether they had crops or not."
بعثني عبد الله بن شداد، وأبو بردة إلى عبد الله بن أبي أوفى، فقالا: سله هل كان أصحاب النبي ﷺ في عهد النبي ﷺ يسلفون في الحنطة؟ قال عبد الله: كنا نسلف نبيط أهل الشأم في الحنطة والشعير والزيت في كيل معلوم إلى أجل معلوم. قلت: إلى من كان أصله عنده؟ قال: ما كنا نسألهم عن ذلك، ثم بعثاني إلى عبد الرحمن بن أبزى، فسألته، فقال: كان أصحاب النبي ﷺ يسلفون على عهد النبي ﷺ، ولم نسألهم ألهم حرث أم لا؟
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Advance Payment Sales (2244-2245) from Musa bin Ismail, who said, Abdul-Wahid narrated to us, who said, Shaybani narrated to us, who said, Muhammad bin Abu Mujalid narrated to us, and he mentioned it. In another report of his, "During the time of the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Umar, regarding wheat, barley, raisins, and dates."In Musnad Ahmad (19122), via Shubah, from Abdullah bin Abu Mujalid, "and it was not with them, or we do not think it was with them."His statement, "We did not ask them about that," shows that advance payment sales are permissible in trade generally, whether in agriculture, manufacturing, or otherwise, provided the stated conditions are met, such as description, type, and duration, and so on, in order to eliminate disputes.And I have given this chapter the same title Bukhari, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, gave it, "Chapter on advance payment sale to one who does not have the basic commodity."His statement, "Nabit," they are also called "Nabat." They were a people among the Arabs who mixed with the Persians and the Romans, their lineages became mixed, and their languages became corrupted. Those who mixed with the Romans settled in the deserts of Syria, and they became farmers.
