Some men came to Sahl bin Saad asking him about the pulpit. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word to a certain woman, whom Sahl named, saying, 'Instruct your carpenter slave to make me some wooden planks I can sit on when I address the people.' She ordered him to make them from the tamarisk wood of the forest, then he brought them to her, and she sent them to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He gave instructions for them to be placed in position, and he sat upon it."
أتى رجال إلى سهل بن سعد يسألونه عن المنبر، فقال: بعث رسول الله ﷺ إلى فلانة امرأة قد سماها سهل: أن مري غلامك النجار يعمل لي أعوادا، أجلس عليهن إذا كلمت الناس، فأمرته يعملها من طرفاء الغابة، ثم جاء بها، فأرسلت إلى رسول الله ﷺ بها، فأمر بها، فوضعت، فجلس عليه.
