Ayesha reported,
The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to work with their own hands, and they would develop body odor. So it was said to them, "You should bathe."

كان أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ عمال أنفسهم، وكان يكون لهم أرواح، فقيل لهم: لو اغتسلتم.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Sales (2071) and Muslim in the Book of Friday Prayer (847/6), through the route of Urwa bin Zubayr, from Ayesha, who said what has already been mentioned.It has also been reported from Abu Bakr Siddiq 
that he said, "My people know that my trade was never insufficient to provide for my family, and now I have been occupied with the affairs of the Muslims, so the household of Abu Bakr will eat from this wealth, and he will work for the Muslims through it."Bukhari related it in the Book of Sales (2070) from Ismail bin Abdullah, who said, Ali bin Wahb narrated to me, from Abu Yunus, who said, Urwa informed me of it in this manner.
