The Messenger of Allah ﷺ camped at Muhassab and called for Abd al-Rahman bin Abu Bakr, saying, "Take your sister out of the sacred precinct so she may enter the state of ihram for umrah, then let her perform tawaf around the Kabah. I will wait for you both here."She said, We set out and I entered ihram, then I performed tawaf around the Kabah and made the saee between Safa and Marwa. We then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the middle of the night while he was at his lodging, and he gave permission for us to enter.He asked, "Have you finished?"I replied, "Yes."He then announced to his companions that they were departing. He set out, passed by the Kabah and performed tawaf around it before the dawn prayer, then headed out toward Medina.
نزل رسول الله ﷺ المحصب، فدعا عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر، فقال: اخرج بأختك من الحرم فلتهل بعمرة، ثم لتطف بالبيت، فإني أنتظركما ههنا قالت: فخرجنا فأهللت، ثم طفت بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة، فجئنا رسول الله ﷺ فأذن وهو في منزله من جوف الليل، فقال: هل فرغت؟ قلت: نعم، في أصحابه بالرحيل، فخرج فمر بالبيت فطاف به قبل صلاة الصبح، ثم خرج إلى المدينة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj (1788), and Muslim in the Hajj (1211: 123), both from the hadith of Aflah bin Humayd, from Qasim, from Ayesha, and I have mentioned it within a lengthy hadith. Bukhari gave it the heading, "If someone performs the tawaf of Umrah and then leaves, does that suffice him in place of the farewell tawaf?" It is apparent from Bukhari's heading that he holds the view that the farewell tawaf is recommended for the one performing Umrah if he stays in Makkah and does not leave after the Umrah, for if it were obligatory it would not be subsumed within another act. Some scholars have held that the farewell tawaf is not obligatory for the one performing Umrah, among them Shaikh Abdul-Aziz bin Baz. See Fatawa Hayah Kibar Ulama (1/510).As for what Tirmidhi narrated (946) from Nasr bin Abdul-Rahman Kufi, who said, Muharibi narrated to us, from Hajjaj bin Artah, from Abdul-Malik bin Mughira, from Abdul-Rahman bin Baylamani, from Amr bin Aws, from Harith bin Abdullah bin Aws, who said, I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Whoever performs Hajj to this House or performs Umrah, let the last thing he does be at the House," the mention of Umrah in it is objectionable. Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith, and this is how more than one narrator reported it from Hajjaj bin Artah in the same manner, though Hajjaj has been contradicted in part of the chain of transmission."I say, Hajjaj and Abdul-Rahman bin Baylamani are both daif.
