The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed for three days during the Umrah of Fulfillment (Umrat al-Qada).
أن رسول الله ﷺ أقام في عمرة القضاء ثلاثا.
Abu Dawud (1997) narrated it from Dawud bin Rashid, who said, "Yahya bin Zakariya narrated to us, Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated to us, from Abu Aban bin Salih and from Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas," and he mentioned it.Muhammad bin Ishaq is a mudallis, but Ibn Hisham (2/372) transmitted an explicit statement of hearing (tahdith) with this very chain in the account of the Prophet's ﷺ marriage to Maymuna. So perhaps the alteration that occurred in Sunan Abu Dawud, turning it into an'ana form, came from some of the narrators who transmitted from him and shortened the wording of transmission. Therefore, faulting a hadith merely because a mudallis used an'ana should not be applied as a fixed rule, rather the matter must be verified and other factors must be taken into consideration.
