Yala bin Umaya used to say to Umar bin Khattab , "I wish I could see the Prophet of Allah ﷺ at the moment when revelation descends upon him."Then, while the Prophet ﷺ was at Jiranah with a garment shading him, accompanied by some of his companions, Umar among them, a man came to him wearing a woolen cloak smeared with perfume. The man said, "Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a man who entered the state of ihram for Umra while wearing a cloak after having smeared himself with perfume?"The Prophet ﷺ looked at him for a moment and remained silent. Then revelation came upon him. Umar gestured with his hand to Yala bin Umaya, signaling him to come. Yala came forward and put his head under the garment, and there he saw the Prophet ﷺ with his face flushed red, breathing heavily for a while. Then the state passed from him.He said, "Where is the man who asked me about Umra earlier?"The man was sought out and brought to him.The Prophet ﷺ said, "As for the perfume on you, wash it off three times. As for the cloak, take it off. Then do in your Umra what you would do in your Hajj."
Bukhari narrated it in Hajj (1536), and Muslim in Hajj (8:1180), both through the route of Ibn Jurayj, who said, Ataa told me that Safwan bin Yaala bin Umaya told him, that Yaala used to say to Umar bin Khattab, and then he related it.
