Ibn Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umrah before performing Hajj, and he performed Umrah before performing Hajj, and he performed Umrah before performing Hajj."Ayesha responded, "He knows full well that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed four Umrahs in total, including the one he performed alongside his Hajj."
اعتمر رسول الله ﷺ قبل أن يحج، واعتمر قبل أن يحج، واعتمر قبل أن يحج. فقالت عائشة: لقد علم أنه اعتمر أربع عمر بعمرته التي حج فيها.
Imam Ahmad (18629) narrated it from Yazid bin Harun, who said, Zakariya bin Abu Zaida informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from Bara bin Azib, and he related it. Bayhaqi (11/5) also narrated it through this same route and said, "Three umrahs, all of them in Dhul-Qaidah." Then he mentioned Ayesha's correction.Abu Yaala (1660) related it in abbreviated form, with the wording, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed umrah before Hajj," without repeating it three times. Then he mentioned Ayesha's correction.There is no contradiction between what Bara said and what Ayesha said. Bara did not include the Prophet's ﷺ umrah performed within his Hajj among the total count of umrahs, while Ayesha did include it, which is why the numbers differ. Both are correct.
