The Prophet ﷺ distributed sheep among his companions on the Day of Sacrifice and said, "Slaughter them for your Umrah, for they will suffice you." Saad bin Abu Waqqas received a male goat.
أن النبي ﷺ قسم غنما يوم النحر في أصحابه وقال: اذبحوها لعمرتكم، فإنها تجزئ عنكم. فأصاب سعد بن أبي وقاص تيس.
Ahmad (2802) narrated it from Hajjaj bin Muhammad, from Ibn Jurayj, who said, "Ikrima, the freedman of Ibn Abbas, informed me, claiming that Ibn Abbas had told him." Its chain is sahih.Tabarani also narrated it in Al-Kabir (11/223) through another route, from Dawud bin Husayn, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a flock of sheep to Saad bin Abu Waqqas to distribute among his companions, who were performing tamattu, and a billy goat remained, so Saad bin Abu Waqqas sacrificed it for his tamattu.Haythami said in Al-Majmu (3/226), "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." He failed to attribute it to Tabarani as well. I then found that he mentioned it in the chapter on sacrificial animals (4/19) and said, "Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." But this is not accurate, for it contains Ibrahim bin Ismail bin Abu Habiba, who is not among the narrators of the Sahih, and he is daif, as stated in Taqrib. There is also another flaw in it, namely that Dawud bin Husayn is considered weak in his narration from Ikrima.
