The Prophet ﷺ set out from Medina with somewhat over a thousand of his companions. When they reached Dhul-Hulayfah, the Prophet ﷺ garlanded the sacrificial animal, marked it, and entered the state of ihram for Umrah.
خرج النبي ﷺ من المدينة في بضع عشرة مئة من أصحابه، حتى إذا كانوا بذي الحليفة قلد النبي ﷺ الهدي وأشعر، وأحرم بالعمرة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj chapter (1694, 1695) via Mamar, from Zuhri, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from Miswar bin Makhrama and Marwan, who said (and he mentioned it).
