She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out from al-Batha during the night of departure, traveling through the late hours of the night."
قالت: أدلج رسول الله ﷺ ليلة النفر من البطحاء ادلاجا.
Ibn Majah (3068) and Imam Ahmad (24493) both narrated it from Ammar bin Raziq, from Sulayman Amash, from Ibrahim, from Aswad, from Ayesha, and I have mentioned it, with the wording being that of Ibn Majah. Ahmad's wording is similar. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2997), narrating it through another route from Ibrahim, who said, Aswad said, Ayesha said, "I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveling by night from Abtah, he was going up while I was going down, or he was going down while I was going up."His word "idlajan," with the dal doubled, means traveling in the latter part of the night, at dawn, and this is what is meant here. It has also been said to be with the dal unvoweled (sukun), meaning traveling in the early part of the night. Both readings are sound. If the first is meant, then it refers to the Prophet's journey from Batha to the sacred House of Allah to perform the farewell tawaf. If the second is meant, then it refers to Ayesha's journey in the early part of the night with her brother to perform umrah from Tanim.Bukhari has a chapter heading similar to the one I have given, and it appears he intends the doubled dal, to indicate the Prophet's departure in the latter part of the night. He recorded two hadiths by the route of Ayesha, from Ibrahim, from Aswad, from Ayesha, concerning the story of Safiyyah's menstruation. When it was said to him that she had performed the tawaf of ifadah, he said, "Then set out" (1771, 1772).
