He met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage and said, "May my father be ransomed for you, Messenger of Allah. Pray for forgiveness for me."The Prophet ﷺ, who was on his she-camel Adba, replied, "May Allah forgive you all."He said, So I rushed to the other side, hoping he would single me out apart from the people, and I said, "Pray for forgiveness for me."He answered, "May Allah forgive you all."A man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about the firstborn offerings and the Rajab sacrifices?"He replied, "Whoever wishes may offer the firstborn, and whoever wishes need not. Whoever wishes may offer the Rajab sacrifice, and whoever wishes need not. As for sheep, the sacrifice is required."Then he said, "Indeed, your blood and your property are sacred to one another, as sacred as this day of yours, in this land of yours."
أنه لقي رسول الله ﷺ في حجة الوداع، فقلت: بأبي أنت يا رسول الله، استغفر لي. قال: غفر الله لكم. قال وهو على ناقته العضباء. قال: فاشتدت له من الشق الآخر أرجو أن يخصني دون القوم. فقلت: استغفر لي. قال: غفر الله لكم. قال رجل: يا رسول الله، الفرائع والعتائر؟ قال: من شاء فرع، ومن شاء لم يفرع، ومن شاء عتر ومن شاء لم يعتر، في الغنم أضحية. ثم قال: ألا إن دماءكم وأموالكم عليكم حرام كحرمة يومكم هذا، في بلدكم هذا.
Narrated by Imam Ahmad (15972), and this is his wording. Nasai also narrated it (4226, 4227), as did Tabarani in al-Kabir (3350) and Hakim (4/236) in abridged form. All of them narrated it through routes going back to Yahya bin Zurara bin Karim bin Harith bin Amr al-Bahili, who said, "I heard my father mention that he heard his grandfather Harith bin Amr narrating," and he related it.Yahya bin Zurara was not deemed reliable by anyone other than Ibn Hibban, and for this reason Hafiz said in Taqrib, "Acceptable." I say, this is indeed the case, because he has a corroborating narrator. Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir (3351), as did Hakim (4/232) and Bayhaqi (5/28), all of them through the route of Abdul-Warith, from Utba bin Abdul-Malik al-Sahmi, from Zurara, with his isnad, in a similar wording. Hakim said, "A sahih hadith which the two of them did not include."Tabarani also recorded it (3352) via another route, from Suhayl bin Husayn al-Bahili, from Zurara bin Karim, from Harith bin Amr al-Sahmi, that he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage while he was riding his she-camel al-Adbaa. Harith was a heavily built man, so he came down to him and drew close until his face was level with the knee of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet of Allah reached down and wiped Harith's face, and a radiant glow remained on Harith's face until he died. Harith said to him, "O Prophet of Allah, pray to Allah for me." So he said, "O Allah, forgive us." Then he related something similar to the hadith of Abdul-Warith. End of quote.
