The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said, "People, Allah has made the pilgrimage obligatory upon you, so perform the pilgrimage."A man asked, "Every year, Messenger of Allah?"The Prophet remained silent. The man repeated his question until he had asked it three times. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Had I said yes, it would have become obligatory, and you would not have been able to bear it."Then he said, "Leave me with what I have left to you. Those who came before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning and their disagreements with their prophets. So when I command you to do something, do as much of it as you are able, and when I forbid you something, abandon it."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj (1337), from Zuhayr bin Harb, who said, Yazid bin Harun told us, Rabi bin Muslim Qurashi informed us, from Muhammad bin Ziyad, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. It has already been mentioned at the beginning of the chapter. In another narration, found in a source other than Muslim, it is stated that this noble verse in Surah Maidah was revealed concerning this matter, "O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if made clear to you, would bring you trouble" [Maidah 5:101].
