Amra reported, "We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the nights of Hajj," and she mentioned the hadith.She said, "When we departed from Mina, we camped at al-Muhassab. He called Abdul Rahman and said, 'Take your sister outside the sacred precinct so that she may enter the state of ihram for Umrah, then complete your tawaf. I will wait for you both here.'"We came to him in the middle of the night, and he asked, "Have you finished?"I replied, "Yes."He then called out among his companions to depart. He set out, passed by the House, performed tawaf around it before the dawn prayer, then left for Medina.
خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في ليالي الحج وذكرت الحديث، قالت: حتى نفرنا من منى، فنزلنا المحصب، فدعا عبد الرحمن، فقال: اخرج بأختك الحرم، فلتهل بعمرة، ثم افرغا من طوافكما، أنتظركما هاهنا فأتينا في جوف الليل، فقال: فرغتما؟ قلت: نعم، فنادى بالرحيل في أصحابه، فخرج فمر بالبيت، فطاف به قبل صلاة الصبح، ثم خرج إلى المدينة.
Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj (1788), and Muslim in the Hajj (1211: 123), both from the hadith of Aflah bin Humayd, from Qasim bin Muhammad, from Ayesha, and I have already mentioned it. The wording given is that of Muslim, while the wording of Bukhari is, "So the people set off, along with whoever had performed tawaf around the House." Al-Hafiz attempted to explain this phrasing, but then concluded that a distortion had occurred in it, saying, "The correct version is, 'So the people set off, then he performed tawaf around the House,' as it occurs in Abu Dawud (2005) and Muslim." End of quote.In Sahih Ibn Khuzayma (2998), by the route of Aflah bin Humayd, it reads, "So the people set off, and he passed by the House before the dawn prayer, and performed tawaf around it, then went out and rode, then departed heading toward Madinah."As for a person who delays the tawaf of ifadah, if he then decides to travel, he performs tawaf at the time of his departure, after having stoned the pillars and finished everything else. In that case, the tawaf of ifadah suffices him in place of the farewell tawaf, provided that with this single tawaf he intends both of them together, namely the tawaf of ifadah and the farewell tawaf.
