Bazzar in Kashf (1139) and Bayhaqi (5/151) both narrated it, from the hadith of Abdul-Ala bin Hammad, who said, "Muslim bin Khalid narrated to us, Ubaydullah bin Umar narrated to us, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar," and he related it.Its isnad is hasan, on account of the discussion surrounding Muslim bin Khalid, who is Zanji, about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan. Hafiz also graded it hasan in Talkhis (2/263).With the same meaning it was also narrated from Ibn Abbas. Bayhaqi (5/151) narrated it through Ata bin Abu Rabah, from him, but it contains Umar bin Qays, who is Makki, known as Sindal, and he is very daif. The correct view is that it is a mursal narration from Ata bin Abu Rabah, as Bayhaqi narrated it with a sahih isnad from him.With the same meaning it was also narrated from Amr bin Shuayb, from his father, from his grandfather, "that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted the shepherds to cast the pebbles at night, and at whatever hour of the day they wished." However, this too is daif.Daraqutni (2685) narrated it through Bakr bin Bakkar, who said, "Ibrahim bin Yazid narrated to us, Sulayman Ahwal narrated to us, from Amr bin Shuayb, from his father, from his grandfather."Bakr bin Bakkar and his teacher Ibrahim bin Yazid, who is Khuzi, are both daif, though his teacher is in a worse state than him.
