Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Mina, went to the Jamrah and threw the pebbles at it, then went to his lodging in Mina and offered the sacrifice. He then said to the barber, "Take," pointing to the right side of his head, then to the left side. After that, he began distributing the hair to the people. In another narration, he gestured with his hand toward the right side like this, and his hair was divided among those near him. He then signaled to the barber to shave the left side, and after it was shaved, he gave that hair to Umm Sulaym. In another narration, the barber began with the right side, and the Prophet ﷺ distributed the hair, a strand or two at a time, among the people. Then he indicated the left side and did the same with it. Then he said, "Is Abu Talha here?" and handed it to Abu Talha. In another narration, he gestured with his hand to his head, and the barber shaved the right side. He divided that hair among those near him, then said, "Shave the other side." Then he asked, "Where is Abu Talha?" and gave it to him.In another narration, he offered the barber the right side and it was shaved. He then called Abu Talha al-Ansari and gave it to him. Then he offered the left side and said, "Shave it," so it was shaved. He gave it to Abu Talha and said, "Distribute it among the people."
Narrated by Muslim in the Hajj (1305, 323, 324, 325, 326) through various routes from Hisham bin Hassan, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Anas, and he mentioned it.Bukhari narrated it in the wudu (171) from the hadith of Ibn Awn, from Ibn Sirin, from Anas bin Malik, "that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shaved his head, Abu Talha was the first to take from his hair."It is understood from the narration of Ibn Awn that the Prophet ﷺ gave Abu Talha hair from his right side. It is understood from the narrations of Muslim that he gave him hair from his right side and hair from his left side. It is also understood from the narrations of Muslim that he gave the people the hair of his right side and his left side. It is likewise understood that he gave Umm Salim the hair of his left side.On the surface these appear contradictory, but they can be reconciled by saying that when he ﷺ shaved his right side, he gave it to Abu Talha, and when he shaved his left side, he gave part of it to Umm Salim and the rest to Abu Talha to distribute among the people. So his statement in the first narration, "then he began giving it to the people," means that Abu Talha undertook this task, since he took the hair of the right side and the hair of the left side and carried out its distribution among the people by the Prophet's command, as in the later narration found in Muslim. And with Allah lies success.
