Muamar said, I used to prepare the camel and saddle it for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage. One night he said to me, "Muamar, I felt the saddle-girths shifting tonight."I replied, "By the One who sent you with the truth, I tightened them just as I always tighten them. Someone who resents my position with you must have loosened them, hoping you would replace me with another."He said, "I will not do so."When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sacrificed his offering at Mina, he ordered me to shave his head. So I took the razor and stood over him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at my face and said to me, "Muamar, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has placed himself in your hands, the razor against his earlobe."I said, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, this is truly among the favors and blessings of Allah upon me."He said, "Yes indeed, that is so."Then I shaved the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
كنت أرحل لرسول الله ﷺ في حجة الوداع قال فقال لي ليلة من الليالي: يا معمر لقد وجدت الليلة في أنساعي اضطرابا. قال فقلت: أما والذي بعثك بالحق لقد شددتها كما كنت أشدها، ولكنه أرخاها من قد كان نفس علي مكاني منك، لتستبدل بي غيري، قال: فقال: أما إني غير فاعل. قال: فلما نحر رسول الله ﷺ هديه بمنى أمرني أن أحلقه، قال: فأخذت الموسى فقمت على رأسه. قال: فنظر رسول الله ﷺ في وجهي وقال لي يا معمر، أمكنك رسول الله ﷺ من شحمة أذنه وفي يدك الموسى؟ قال: فقلت: أما والله يا رسول الله إن ذلك لمن نعمة الله علي ومنه. قال: فقال: أجل إذا أقر لك. قال: ثم حلقت رسول الله ﷺ.
Imam Ahmad (27249) and Tabarani in Kabir (20/447-448) both narrated it from the hadith of Ibn Ishaq, who said, Yazid bin Abu Habib the Egyptian told me, from Abdul-Rahman bin Uqba, the freedman of Ma'mar bin Abdullah bin Nafi bin Nadla al-Adawi, from Ma'mar bin Abdullah, and he related it. Their wording is identical except for a few words.Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, since he is a mudallis, but here he stated his source explicitly. It is also hasan because of Abdul-Rahman bin Uqba, who is among the narrators mentioned in Tajil. Husayni said, "unknown," but Ibn Hajar responded to him, saying,"How so? Rather he is known. Ibn Yunus mentioned him and identified him as Ghifari, and he mentioned among those who narrated from him Musa bin Ayub, in addition to Yazid bin Abu Habib, and that the aforementioned Abdul-Rahman was killed in Ifriqiya. Ibn Abu Hatim, following Bukhari, did not mention any criticism of him."I say, someone like him has his hadith graded hasan, especially since what was previously mentioned in the hadith of Ibn Khuzayma corroborates him.The scholars affirmed that the one who shaved the head of the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage was Ma'mar bin Abdullah bin Nadla al-Qurashi, among them Ibn Hajar in Fath al-Bari (1/309).His words, "our straps," is the plural of nas'a, with a kasra on the nun and sukun on the sin, which refers to a broad woven strap used to bind around the camel's chest. And his words, "nafas," with a kasra on the fa, like ilm, comes from "nafistu alayhi bi-shay," said when you regard someone as deserving of something. This was noted by Sindi.
