He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood at Arafah, then departed when the sun had set, taking Usama bin Zayd behind him on his mount.
قال وقف رسول الله ﷺ بعرفة ثم أفاض حين غابت الشمس، وأردف أسامة بن زيد.
Abu Dawud (1922, 1935), Tirmidhi (885), and Ibn Majah (3010) narrated it, and Ibn Khuzayma (2837) graded it sahih, and the wording here is his. All of them transmit it from the hadith of Sufyan, from Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Ayyash, from Zayd bin Ali, from his father, from Ubaydullah bin Abu Rafi, from Ali, who related it in a long hadith as Tirmidhi mentioned it (already given shortly before), while others narrated it in shortened form. The wording given here is that of Ibn Khuzayma, who shortened it to this particular portion concerning the departure from Arafah. Its chain of transmission is hasan on account of the discussion surrounding Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Ayyash, though his hadith is nonetheless hasan.
