Abdullah bin Umar reported,

Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to the Ansari man and said, "If you wish, I will tell you what you came to ask about, or if you prefer, you may ask me and I will answer you."The man replied, "No, Prophet of Allah, you tell me what I came to ask."He said, "You came to ask me about the pilgrim. What does he gain when he leaves his house? What does he gain when he stands at Arafat? What does he gain when he stones the pillars? What does he gain when he shaves his head? And what does he gain when he completes his final circuit around the House?"The man said, "Prophet of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, you have not missed a single thing of what was on my mind!"He said, "When he leaves his house, his mount does not take a single step except that a good deed is written for him by it, or a sin is wiped away from him. When he stands at Arafat, Allah عز وجل descends to the lowest heaven and says, 'Look at My servants, disheveled and dust-covered. Bear witness that I have forgiven them their sins, even were they as many as the drops of rain or the sands of Aalij.' When he stones the pillars, no one knows what he will receive until he is given it in full on the Day of Resurrection. When he shaves his head, for every hair that falls from his head he will have a light on the Day of Resurrection. And when he completes his final circuit around the House, he emerges from his sins as on the day his mother bore him."
