Quraysh used to depart from Muzdalifa, saying, "We are the Hums, so we do not leave the sacred precinct," and they had abandoned the standing at Arafah.He said, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the days of Jahiliyyah standing with the people at Arafah on a camel of his, then in the morning he would be with his people at Muzdalifa, standing with them and departing when they departed.
كانت قريش إنما تدفع من المزدلفة ويقولون: نحن الحمس فلا نخرج من الحرم، وقد تركوا الموقف على عرفة. قال: فرأيت رسول الله ﷺ في الجاهلية يقف مع الناس بعرفة على جمل له ثم يصبح مع قومه بالمزدلفة فيقف معهم يدفع إذا دفعوا.

Ibn Khuzayma (2823) narrated it from Nasr bin Ali, who said, Wahb bin Jareer informed us, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Abdullah bin Abu Bakr narrated to me, from Uthman bin Abu Sulayman, from his uncle Nafi bin Jubayr, from his father Jubayr bin Mutim, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, whose hadith is graded hasan when he states his transmission explicitly.He also narrated it (3057) through another route from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Abdullah bin Abu Bakr, with the same chain, and in it he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before it was revealed to him, standing on his camel at Arafat with the people, moving on from there with them, and that was nothing but guidance from Allah." This chain is also hasan, since the explicit statement of transmission from Muhammad bin Ishaq has already come in the previous narration.His statement, "before it was revealed to him" refers to the words of Allah Most High, "Then depart from the place from which the people depart" [Baqarah 2:199]. The Prophet ﷺ used to stand at Arafat before this verse was revealed. In this there is evidence for his statement, "that was nothing but guidance from Allah," meaning an affirmation from Allah, glorified and exalted is He, of what the Prophet ﷺ did.Jubayr bin Mutim said, "When I became a Muslim, I knew that Allah had guided him to that."This is how Ishaq bin Rahawayh narrated it from Fadl bin Musa, from Uthman bin Aswad, from Ata, that Jubayr bin Mutim said, "I lost a donkey of mine during the Jahiliyyah and found it at Arafah. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing at Arafat with the people. When I became a Muslim, I knew that Allah had guided him to that."See Fath al-Bari (3/516).
