I lost a camel of mine, so I went out searching for it on the Day of Arafah, and I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing with the people at Arafah. I said to myself, "By Allah, this man is one of the Hums, so what is he doing here?" Quraysh were considered among the Hums.
Bukhari narrated it in Hajj (1664), and Muslim in Hajj (1220), both through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Amr (that is, Ibn Dinar) narrated to us, Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mutim narrated to us, from his father, and he related it.The correct understanding of this is that the story of Jubayr bin Mutim with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took place during the pre-Islamic era. Jubayr bin Mutim embraced Islam on the day of the conquest, and his going to Arafah was to search for his stray camel, not to stand there for the ritual. This is confirmed by what Ibn Khuzayma narrated in his Sahih, as in the following hadith.
