When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ settled in Mecca during the year of the Conquest, he circled the Kaaba on a camel, touching the corner with a curved staff in his hand. She said, "I was watching him."
لما اطمأن رسول الله ﷺ بمكة عام الفتح طاف على بعير يستلم الركن بمحجن في يده. قالت: وأنا أنظر إليه.
Reported by Abu Dawud (1878) and Ibn Majah (2947), both from the hadith of Yunus bin Bukayr, who said, Ibn Ishaq narrated to us, saying, Muhammad bin Jafar bin Zubayr narrated to me, from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Abu Thawr, from Safiya bint Shayba, and she related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq, for he is a mudallis, and when he states his source explicitly his hadith is hasan. There is also disagreement regarding Safiya bint Shayba as to whether she had companionship with the Prophet or not. It is reported from Abu Abdul-Rahman Nasai that her hadith is mursal. However, Ibn Sakan and Ibn Abdul-Barr both listed her among the companions, and she has a hadith in Sahih Bukhari. Her statement, "while I was watching him," is explicit in establishing her companionship.
