Aslam reported,

Umar bin Khattab said to the Black Stone, "By Allah, I know well that you are only a stone that can neither harm nor benefit. Had I not seen the Prophet ﷺ kiss you, I would not kiss you." Then he kissed it.He then said, "What is the point of jogging between the hills now? We only did it to display our strength to the polytheists, and Allah has already destroyed them."Then he said, "It is something the Prophet ﷺ did, so I do not wish for us to abandon it."

عن أسلم مولى عمر

أن عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه قال للركن: أما والله إني لأعلم أنك حجر لا تضر ولا تنفع، ولولا أني رأيت النبي ﷺ استلمك ما استلمتك، فاستلمه. ثم قال: فما لنا وللرمل إنما كنا راءينا به المشركين وقد أهلكهم الله. ثم قال: شيء صنعه النبي ﷺ فلا تحب أن نتركه.
