Ibn Umar reported that whenever the Prophet ﷺ performed the initial circumambulation around the Kaaba, he would walk briskly during the first three rounds and walk normally during the remaining four. When he made the rounds between Safa and Marwa, he would run through the bottom of the valley.
أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا طاف بالبيت الطواف الأول يخب ثلاثة أطواف، ويمشي أربعة، وأنه كان يسعى بطن المسيل إذا طاف بين الصفا والمروة.
Bukhari narrated it in Hajj (1617), and Muslim in Hajj (1261:230), both through Ubaydullah (that is, Ibn Umar), from Nafi, from Ibn Umar. The wording given is Bukhari's.In another version from Bukhari (1604), through Fulayh, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, he said, "The Prophet ﷺ jogged three circuits and walked four during the Hajj and the Umrah."In another version from Muslim (1262), from Ubaydullah bin Umar, with the same chain, it reads, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ jogged from the corner to the corner three times, and walked four."
