We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage and entered the state of ihram for Umrah. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has a sacrificial animal with him should enter ihram for Hajj along with Umrah, and should not exit ihram until he completes both together."She said, "I arrived in Mecca while menstruating, so I did not perform tawaf around the House nor go between Safa and Marwa. I complained about this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'Undo your hair, comb it, enter ihram for Hajj, and leave aside the Umrah.'"She continued, "I did so, and when we had completed the Hajj, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me with Abd al-Rahman bin Abu Bakr al-Siddiq to Tanim, where I performed Umrah. He said, 'This is in place of your Umrah.'"Those who had entered ihram for Umrah performed tawaf around the House and went between Safa and Marwa, then exited ihram. They then performed another tawaf after returning from Mina for their Hajj. As for those who had entered ihram for Hajj alone or had combined Hajj and Umrah, they performed only a single tawaf.
Malik narrated it in Hajj (223), from Abdul-Rahman bin Qasim, from his father, from Ayesha, and he related it. Then he narrated it from Ibn Shihab, from Urwa bin Zubayr, from Ayesha, then he said, "Similarly," without giving its wording.Bukhari narrated it in Hajj (1556) from Abdullah bin Maslama Qanabi, and Muslim narrated it in Hajj (1211:111) from Yahya bin Yahya Tamimi, both of them from Malik, from Urwa, from Ayesha, with the same wording, except that in their versions it reads, "As for those who had combined Hajj and Umrah." Their versions do not contain the phrase "they entered the state of ihram for Hajj," meaning for Hajj alone.
