I performed Hajj with my masters, then I went to visit Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and asked her, "Should I perform Umrah before I perform Hajj?"She replied, "If you wish, perform Umrah before Hajj, and if you wish, after Hajj."I said, "People are saying that whoever has never performed Hajj before should not perform Umrah before performing Hajj."So I went and asked the Mothers of the Believers, and they said the same as she had said. I returned to her and told her what they had said.She said, "Yes, and let me put your mind at ease. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Enter the state of ihram, family of Muhammad, with Umrah combined with Hajj.'"
حججت مع موالي، فدخلت على أم سلمة زوج النبي ﷺ فقلت: أعتمر قبل أن أحج؟ قالت: إن شئت فاعتمر قبل أن تحج، وإن شئت بعد أن تحج. قال: فقلت إنهم يقولون: من كان صرورة فلا يصلح أن يعتمر قبل أن يحج. قال: فسألت أمهات المؤمنين، فقلن مثل ما قالت، فرجعت إليها فأخبرتها بقولهن. قال: فقالت: نعم وأشفيك سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: أهلوا يا آل محمد بعمرة في حج.
Imam Ahmad (26548), Tabarani in al-Kabir (23/341), and Bayhaqi (4/355) all narrated it from the hadith of Layth bin Saad, who said, Yazid bin Abu Habib narrated to us, from Abu Imran, who said, and then he mentioned it, except that Tabarani only included the elevated portion without the story. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Ibn Hibban also graded it sahih (3920, 3922) through another route from Yazid bin Abu Habib, with the same wording, similar to it. He said, "This Abu Imran, his name is Aslam, and he is one of the trustworthy people of Egypt."
