Ibn Abbas a was asked about combining Umrah with Hajj, and he replied,"The Muhajirun, the Ansar, and the wives of the Prophet ﷺ entered the sacred state during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and we entered it with them. When we reached Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Turn your consecration for Hajj into Umrah, except for anyone who has garlanded a sacrificial animal.' So we circled the House and went between Safa and Marwa, we went to our wives, and we put on our ordinary clothes. He said, 'Whoever has garlanded a sacrificial animal may not leave the sacred state,' "until the offering reaches its place of sacrifice" [Baqarah 2:196].Then, on the evening before we set out, he ordered us to enter the sacred state for Hajj. Once we had completed the rites, we came and circled the House and went between Safa and Marwa, and with that our Hajj was complete and we owed a sacrificial offering, as Allah Most High said, "then whatever offering is easy to obtain. Whoever cannot find one must fast three days during the Hajj and seven after you return" [Baqarah 2:196], meaning after you return to your home towns. A sheep is sufficient. So they joined two rites in one year, Hajj and Umrah, for Allah Most High sent this down in His Book, His Prophet ﷺ made it his practice, and He permitted it to everyone except the residents of Makkah. Allah said, "That is for anyone whose family does not live near Masjid al-Haram" [Baqarah 2:196].The months of Hajj that Allah Most High mentioned in His Book are Shawwal, Dhul-Qaidah, and Dhul-Hijjah. Whoever combines Umrah with Hajj during these months owes a blood offering or a fast. As for the verse, coarse conduct means sexual relations, transgression means acts of disobedience, and quarrelling means disputation."
Bukhari mentioned it in the chapter on Hajj (1572) as a suspended narration, saying, "Abu Kamil Fudayl bin Husayn Basri said, Abu Mashar told us, Uthman bin Ghiyath told us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who said," and then he mentioned it.Abu Bakr Ismaili connected its chain, as the Hafiz mentioned in Taghliq Taliq (3/62-63), from Qasim Mutarriz, from Ahmad bin Sinan, who said, Abu Kamil told us, Abu Mashar told us, with the same wording.
