The Prophet ﷺ and his companions arrived on the morning of the fourth day chanting the talbiyah for Hajj, and he commanded them to make it an Umra, except for those who had brought sacrificial animals with them.
قدم النبي ﷺ وأصحابه لصبح رابعة يلبون بالحج فأمرهم أن يجعلوها عمرة إلا من معه الهدي.
Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj chapter (1085), and Muslim in the Hajj chapter (1240:202), both from the hadith of Ayub, from Abu Aliyah Bara, from Ibn Abbas, as mentioned. The wording given is Bukhari's, while Muslim's wording is, "that they should change their ihram into an umrah, except those who had the sacrificial animal with them."However, Muslim also narrated it (1240:199) from Nasr bin Ali Jahdami, who said, my father narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Ayub, from Abu Aliyah Bara, that he heard Ibn Abbas say, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered ihram for Hajj, and he arrived when four days of Dhul-Hijjah had passed. He led the dawn prayer, and after praying the dawn prayer he said, "Whoever wishes to make it an umrah may make it an umrah."I have not found this wording, "whoever wishes," except in this narration, while the other narrations contain a command to make it an umrah. Muslim then mentioned the other narrations, including the narration of Abu Dawud Mubaraki, and in the wording of all of these he said, "and he prayed the dawn prayer at Batha," except for Jahdami, who did not mention it.I say, this narration of Mubaraki was mentioned by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih (3794). Bukhari narrated it in the Hajj chapter (1085) through the route of Ayub with his chain, but he did not mention Batha in it, just as he did not mention the phrase "whoever wishes." Rather, in it he said, "he commanded them to make it an umrah."
